Feb. 06, 2014

Gordie Richie of the STJJ set a Canadian record in the 50m backstroke at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre on February 1, 2104. Gordie swam 29.74 seconds to break the old Para record of 30.66 held by Adam Rahier of BC set in 2011.

28 Western Region clubs participated with a combine total of 921 swimmers and 5000+ swims at the new centre hosted by Aylmer Optimist Arrows, Leamington Lasers and Windsor Aquatic Club. Windsor Essex won the meet followed by London Aquatic and then Region of Waterloo Swim team.

There were over 30 Swimmers that achieved a Provincial or Festival time in their perspective event for the first time. They were presented with “I MADE IT” T-shirts to honour their achievement from the Region.

There were a total of 2943 PB times set over the weekend of the 5091 swims. Impressive, for a 58% of personal best times.

Ben, Carol and Teresa would like to thank all officials, coaches and swimmers for a great weekend in Windsor.
